Fabulous fall

Summer loves fall and wanted so much to celebrate her birthday with a fall themed cake in a local pumpkin patch with corn maze.  The weather did not cooperate but at least she was able to enjoy her almond cake with vanilla buttercream filling.  Animal print design with edible gold outline and realistic fall leaves made out of sugarpaste!  Happy birthday Summer!

Bustld spotlight Ashley and Phillip

Ashley and Phillip are such a fun couple, truly beautiful people inside and out.  I still remember tears from the laughter that we shared at their cake tasting.   They chose lemon cake with lemon cream and strawberry compote filling covered in vanilla buttercream-yummy!  The top and middle tier have horizontal texture effect and the bottom tier was covered in individual fondant tiles on buttercream in a checker pattern for the groom’s Nascar connection.    I later received a sweet thank you note from Ashley about how much they loved their cake!

‘The cake was marvelous and beautiful.’ – Ashley

French Macarons

Whether you call them little hamburgers or mistake them for miniature whoopie pies, macarons are indeed one of the cutest desserts! Crunchy on the outside and a nice chewy texture inside it is hard to be satisfied with just one cookie. They are so addictive and although it is an almond based cookie it adapts to so many different filling options from chocolate to citrus.

These are fall inspired macaron flavors of pecan praline, pumpkin spice, cheesecake and cookies n cream!

Cleveland County Bridal Fair

Wanted to share a few pictures from the bridal fair this past weekend at the beautiful LeGrand Center in Shelby, NC.

Here is the Cakes & Bakes table with the vintage cupcake tower adorned with crystals.  The mini cupcakes are chocolate fudge and vanilla bean.

My neighbors Deja Vu The Band who were tearing down the house with music ranging from Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline to Prince’s Kiss.  I had so much fun sharing the hall with these amazing musicians.   Cakes & Bakes even got a serenade-can’t beat that.  Thanks Randy, Gary, Steve, Darrell and Wade!

Anniversary tier

50th anniversary wedding cake

Wedding cakes have traditionally been symbols of prosperity, good luck and fertility.  They were initially made from wheat and broken over the bride’s head to symbolize good fortune.  The bride and groom would first share a few crumbs then the wedding guests would gather the rest of the crumbs as tokens of good luck.  Today, the bride and groom cut the first delicious slice and feed each other to show that they nurture each other.  The meaning is the same even if the cake is smeared in the face!

Most couples want to relive moments from their wedding as they celebrate their first anniversary!    Cakes & Bakes offers a free keepsake cake which is completely separate from the wedding cake that is to be displayed at the reception. This frees the attendants and caterers from trying to guard the top tier during the reception to keep it from being eaten.  The separate keepsake anniversary cake is wrapped and boxed to protect from the elements while in the freezer.  To thaw the cake simply remove the box from the freezer and place in the refrigerator for a minimum of 24 hours then a few hours before you plan on eating the cake unwrap and let the cake get to room temperature before enjoying.

Skeptical about eating your anniversary cake, here is a message that one of our brides sent to us on her first anniversary.

“My husband and I just ate our wedding cake, and it was just as good now as it was last year! Thanks again for making the best cake ever!”
-Angela

Plan B
If the cake has been in and out of thaw and freeze state due to unforeseen event or power outage, it may not be a safe to consume.  You can always order the same cake flavor and filling just in a smaller version for the two of you to enjoy on your anniversary!

Happy eating!
